After an opening prayer, short texts from scripture and poetry that relate to a seasonal theme are read three times for meditation.
We read aloud at an unhurried pace. This practice, also known as sacred reading, encourages us to slow down, truly savour the words, and open ourselves to a word or phrase that rises above the text.
We read the passage again and then reflect on the word or phrase that speaks to us, attending to the emotions or thoughts it conjures.
We move beyond the words into that ‘thin space’ and observe a period of silence for peace and rest. This can take many forms, such as drawing, painting, daydreaming, collaging, art journaling, and mandalas. Allow the art to enter your heart, mind and soul. We keep silent to ask God why this word or feeling is provoked and to listen to what the Spirit is saying through the text.
